Adding Textures in Blender

I have been learning to add materials in Blender.  I enjoy the Halloween theme as I can make the scene quite dark. I like the idea of adding lights to a dark environment. I created this short animated scene.   I began practising adding texture to objects in blender. I applied a brick texture to the ground which went very well. I also added some Leaf’s to the ground to make it look more realistic. I directed the light too hit the ground to give it a wet look effect and also made the light shade green to give it some colour.

This is the texture I have applied to the ground

I applied this texture by using an image texture shader. I’ve connected the colour to the base colour using a principled BSDF Surface.

Blender Software research

Blender 2.9 is a free and open source, 3D
computer graphic software used for creating
animation films, visual effects art, 3D printed
models, motion graphics, interactive 3D
applications and virtual reality in computer games.
This software can also used to create 2D and 3D animations,
photographs and videos. Blender software is an amazing
software that enables me to create some great
animations. I love the many different camera
angles that I can record from. You can enjoy
sculpting objects, colouring and animating
them.
You can create and rig characters, backgrounds
and render your movies all in the same space.
The fact that Blender is a go to open source
software for animation for is a great. As a
freelancer Blender is a great place to create
your animations without worrying about
breaking any copyrighting laws as you can
choose to create from scratch. There are
multiple tutorials available on YouTube and
other video outlets, which you can find doing
simple searches via the Internet.

Critical Appraisal

Looking back into the assignment, I’ve been given I find that the Spark AR was quite interesting as I’ve never made an augmented reality assets before and I found it quite cool too design. as someone who enjoys filters on media apps. I was amazed how easy it was to create. I found it quite quick and not too difficult to understand. My asset was a VR headset with coloured eyes. are use the Facebook coloured eyes plug ins feature, which worked well. The main thing it was able to track the face correctly One of the hardest parts was once it had been published, figuring out how to share it. I didn’t really want to share it to my Facebook account and it also made me wonder whether my face was going to be on it but I would love to make more asset one day. I found some of my other classmates assets very cool, especially the ones that had done drawing on the face mesh as I think they came out really well. I would have loved to have spent more time designing something aesthetically more pleasing to the eye.

When it came to the 360 film to begin with, I felt a bit confused about the task as I couldn’t really picture it the way my team pictured it, but I enjoyed their ideas and tried to have an input. I feel that I learnt a lot about the After affects and Eevo. I’m happy that I learnt to use the software and I was happy with the outcome of our group work. I feel my group work together very well for our first task.

The difficulties were learning new software that I had no experience using the teachers were quite helpful, and I was able to acquire the knowledge to use the software

When it came to the virtual world in unity, I found this to be the most time-consuming and challenging assignment, as once again it was new to me. I wouldn’t say it was difficult to begin to learn and after a few trials and errors, I’m quite happy with the outcome. To improve, I would keep practising and follow tutorials during my spare time. I modelled a 3-D underground but then found that once it was imported into unity, some of the faces were see-through. I was able to fix this by changing some materials and covering the see-through parts which made it look better, but obviously something during the export and import may need more looking into an understanding. I’m quite happy with the outcome. For the recording process I had to watch a tutorial, as I had missed a few sessions with the teacher that may have showed us how to do this. Not sure how this will work as I’m still in the middle following this tutorial, hopefully it will go smoothly. I’m happy with the fact that the bridge and the underground came out visually pleasing.

I’ve been following the tutorial about recording unity and I came across a few problem. There were errors in my assets, and I thought about deleting the assets that it says have errors, but I wasn’t sure whether that was a good idea so I googled it and found out that I could re-import all my assets which I did. After doing this, I got a bit worried because it took a while for my work, to come back and show up correctly. It eventually did and apart from the bus being really small and under the water, it was pretty good. I feel like the view is much better, I can see everything seems to have come closer together where as before everything seemed more spaced out, so that was a good thing . The recording button that was not appearing in the windows under general, due to some errors. I eventually got it to work and the record button appeared, but then I couldn’t navigate while recording. I attempted to record using a different method. I tried to use a standard Xbox game bar recorder, which is built into my laptop. This did not work as the recorder does not work on Windows, so I decided to try PowerPoint screen record. this was the method I eventually used.

I didn’t use the Maximo or turbo squid resources. I have used maximo on previous animated characters but I had run out of time. I feel that if I had checked out turbo squid, maybe I would’ve found some better assets. I think it would have been great to have imported a character and a maximo movement. I would have liked to have captured some walking. I also think the world would have benefited from some trees.

During the last week and a half lead up to my submission I had some issues causing a delay in completing my work which led to me being unable to get that extra support.

My favourite part of this assignment was the 360 film. I would love to see how it would look in VR. I enjoy just scrolling around in the video.

Unity Virtual World

I did manage to record a video which I don’t think was the best. I was unable to use the built in unity recorder which looked amazing. I managed to do a video screen recording via PowerPoint.

One of the locations in my virtual world was Tower Bridge. To be honest once I found the asset, I just thought it was a good way to represent London a place I’ve lived all my life. I guess the second location that I was trying to create was the area and the type of house I lived in. This was a Terraced house with big flats opposite, where I spent most of my childhood. I wanted to do more of a big park area behind the houses as it was a place we hung out a lot as kids. The last location was the Oval underground station, which was my method of transport to school everyday and definitely Screams London. The London Underground icon was pretty easy to make. I couldn’t find an asset so I did a quick model.

360 Film making

Eevo is an app where we will finalise our 360 film. We have imported our footage and put them into order of where each room will lead to, while thinking about the original plan.

We connected each video footage by pinning connectors leading to and exiting from each video in order with which room leads to the other.

We also entered each video and placed new exit buttons directly in place with the buttons created in After effects. This pinpoints where the buttons should be exactly, as this is what gives us the ability to create actual working buttons.
