Week 1 Character Creation

Avatars

Identity, Myth and Embodiment

To Start us thinking about character creation we are looking at avatars. People often use avatar’s too portray themselves, usually to play games and on use social media. It is a very complex art to design characters, that others would enjoy controlling. With an increase in the amount of technology available to designers, the challenges have increased as realistic detail is desirable. Not only do some people enjoy realistic Depictions of themselves but also fantasy creatures, mystical beings and many other forms.

Bitmoji is a platform where you can personalise your own cartoon character emoji, with a huge selection of customisation options available. which people can use as their personal avatar or share via messages.

Fantasy Avatar Neria created by Truth is one many mythical being type avatars, which are even being created and sold to use as an identity in a 3D virtual world

Cindy Sherman born 1954, is an American artist that specialises in self-portraits and theatrical role playing in art. She disguises herself as many different imagined characters and is seen as feminist icon to many. Disguising herself in numerous stereotypical feminine roles, Cindy displays a multiplicity of putting on a good face to matches the occasion and the contradicting aspect of art, how photography is very complicit in a way which identity is shaped today Cindy helps people to understand that are identity are not only shaped by our actions and mannerism, they can also result from are own efforts and imagination
